Assignment 6
3D Printing
Objetive
To make a CAD model of any form within the dimensions 20mm X 20mm X 15mm, export it into a .stl file format and get it 3D printed.
Introduction to 3D Printing
3D printing is an additive manufacturing process that creates a physical object with layer by layer fabrication of a material. There are various types of 3D printing but the process used for this assignment is Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM).
Softwares used
To 3D print a part, the first step is to create a CAD model using any 3D software, and the CAD file is saved in the STL (.stl) format. Later on the STL (.stl) file is imported into a slicing software to adjust the orientation of the model, in way that requires minimum support material.
Also the thickness of each layer is decided in the slicing software itself. The sliced file is fed into the printer to start layer by layer fabrication.
